"The Way Back Home is visually charming, and quite amusing to entertain both them and the parents alike. Without words, it requires the audience to bring just that little a bit of their own imagination to what is shown before them, which can only be encouraging." — The Public Reviews

When a boy discovers a single-propeller airplane in his closet, he flies it to outer space! But as it turns out, he is not alone up there... The Way Back Home uses puppets to tell Oliver Jeffers’ (Award-winning illustrator of The Day the Crayons Quit) simple yet profound tale about friendship and conquering the fear of the unknown.

Join us for a Post-Performance Lobby Experience

After the show, our young audiences will have the chance to create their very own souvenir pilot and plane! Several craft tables will be set up in the lobby, which children and their guardians can visit in any order. Go to every table to personalize each element of the craft, put them all together, and get the chance to fly your plane from the moon back to earth, just like the boy in The Way Back Home!

Please note: The 1:00pm show of The Way Back Home on June 10 will be a Relaxed Performance.

A Relaxed Performance is designed to provide a welcoming and judgement–free theater experience for people with autism spectrum disorders and other sensitivity issues or special needs.

For the production, small adjustments are made such as:

·         Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance.

·         Sound will be kept at a comfortable level,  especially for startling or loud sounds.

·         Patrons are free to talk, move around, and leave their seats during the performance.

·         Allowed use of iPads and other electronics for therapeutic uses.

·         A designated quiet activity and relaxation area within the theater.

·         Pre-visit materials for what to expect at the theater. Check the Audience Extras section for updates.

·         Two River staff and volunteers will be trained to accommodate your families’ needs.

We want everyone to feel welcome at Two River Theater. Relax and enjoy the show!

ABOUT THE THEATRES

BRANAR TÉATAR (IE)

We strive for a simple, elegant form of theatre for young people, that achieves intricacy through the creative use of few means. A style that stimulates the ability to imagine and challenge, while opening a dialogue with our audiences and providing a catalyst for education.

We have a responsibility to our audience to ensure that the Branar show they see, is the best show that we could make. We spend a long time developing and interrogating our shows to ensure that when children see it, it is the best it can be. We believe that all children should be allowed to have access to the arts. Since we began we have made thousands of artistic contacts with children.

TEATER REFLEKSION

Teater Refleksion endeavors to produce theatre of the highest quality – in terms of both content and expression. The use of puppets and animation onstage, with the puppet as principal object and medium, is the company’s defining attribute.

The themes of their work, often existential, are explored in a peaceful, concentrated and immediate atmosphere, creating a space in which children and adults can immerse themselves. The goal is to inspire, challenge and encourage the audience to embrace the challenges, that face them in a world, which, at times, can be complicated and unmanageable – and to deal with them with competence and meaning. This is done by addressing the senses as well as the intellect, and by encouraging an open and curious mind, ready to relate and eager for experience – just as we see it in children.
