First Monday Masters
Starting in September 2017, Two River Theater will host a new series of participatory master classes called First Monday Masters, led by some of the marvelous artists who are involved in our season. Some master classes will be for high-school students, some for adults, and some will be for mixed ages. Classes will be taught by actors, directors, playwrights, and designers—great artists who are excited to share their visions and work with students and lifelong learners.
Most First Monday Masters are on Monday evenings from 6-8pm at Two River Theater. Spots are limited. Cost: $40 per class.
December 4 – Directing with Michael Cumpsty – For adults and high school students, limited to 16 participants
Michael Cumpsty is a Tony Award-nominated actor and director who has appeared in 17 Broadway shows and numerous Two River Theater productions, including The Lion in Winter and Present Laughter. Michael is immensely gifted in taking young people and lifelong learners through the creative process; his directing master class will help participants find a deep engagement with the text they are exploring.
January 8 - College Audition Workshop with Kate Murray– For high school juniors and seniors, limited to 14 participants (This Monday Masters class is from 6:30-9:30pm and costs $50.)
Kate Murray is a Casting Director at The Public Theater, where she works on mainstage productions, as well as readings and projects in development. Her credits include productions at Two River Theater, The Cherry Lane, Bedlam, LAByrinth, New Georges, as well as many Broadway plays as a Casting Associate. Kate will work one-on-one with high school students who are preparing for their college auditions; actors should plan to stay the entire time as they will learn from one another. Students should be ready to work on one memorized 2-minute monologue (either contemporary or classical) and bring in more than one piece in case we have extra time. Bring a resume. This class is an opportunity for learning, not an opportunity for employment.
